Quality Bicycles Since 1994
Santa Cruz Bicycles was founded in a space the size of a single car garage in the Seabright Cannery, in Santa Cruz, California. Our first bike, the Tazmon, was a single-pivot dual suspension bike that rattled established sensibilities. At the time full-suspension bikes were far from the norm, and a do-it-all bike (what we’d refer to as ‘trail’ or ‘all-mountain’ now) with rear suspension was considered highly irregular. But our founder, skateboarding legend, Rob Roskopp, wasn’t hog-tied to following trends or being told how to think. Instead he could see that full-suspension was an innovation whose time had come. And ever since we’ve tried to build bikes that allow riders to go further, faster, and higher, for longer.
We now manufacture a wide range of high-performance bicycles for true cycling enthusiasts. Made from either carbon fiber or aluminum, we cover everything from hardtails to 8.5" travel downhill machines. Our carbon bikes are produced in our exclusive manufacturing facility, and we utilize our advanced VPP (Virtual Pivot Point) technology on all full-suspension models. Our bikes are available with a wide range of component and suspension options to choose from, each hand-assembled to order in our California factory. Juliana, our sister brand, is the original women’s mountain bike and today we produce a full range of high-end bicycles for women.
We also produce high-end Reserve carbon wheels which have set a new standard for strength and reliability. All of our frames and Reserve wheels come with a lifetime warranty. Every one of our bikes is the distillation of our desire to ride and build the highest quality bikes in the world. And for us, that means bicycles and components that are reliable, durable, long-lasting, serviceable and backed with a guarantee that reinforces our belief that we’ve made the best possible product.
We could get all touchy feely here and talk about how we are committed and impassioned riders, and how we love bikes so much that it somehow elevates us into something unique, but that's kind of common fodder for these "about" tabs on bike company websites. EVERYONE working in this industry should be committed and impassioned. It takes that kind of commitment to try to build the perfect bike. Still, we think we chase that vision of building quality bicycles that makes riding a better experience more than the others. Because we don’t want our after work or weekend rides spoiled by bikes that squeak, that fail, that need babying, and that give us an excuse to not hit that sweet gap.
